The tanker “Nordvik” left the NSR water area 

On September 14, the nuclear icebreakers "Taimyr" and "Vaigach” finished the pilotage of the tanker “Nordvik” to ice-free waters. On September 17, the tanker “Nordvik” left the NSR water area and is navigating now to the port Yuring-Haja on the river Anabar. The hull of the vessel has no any water inflow.

As previously reported the “sea-river” type, tanker "Nordvik" was struck by ice floe while sailing in the Matisen Strait on September 4. The tanker got a hole in one of the ballast tanks on portside. The vessel with an Ice class – Ice1 loaded with 4 944 tons of arctic diesel fuel was following the route from the Ob Bay to Khatanga.

The Northern Sea Route Administration granted the vessel the Permission to sail in the Kara Sea and the Laptev Sea only in light ice conditions. The official data on the types of ice conditions is published on the web site of the NSR Administration. The captain of the vessel in violation of the Permit’s requirements entered the water area with medium ice conditions, where the vessel’s ballast tank was damaged. The size of the hole was 1000*100 mm. There was no any oil leakage. The hole was plugged with a cement box, water inflow stopped. The tanker “Boris Vilkitsky” was sent to the Matisen Strait to reload the cargo from the tanker “Nordvik”.

On September 11 at 11:30 Moscow time, the tanker “Boris Vilkitsky” moored to the tanker ”Nordvik”. The weather conditions in area was: wind southeast, 4 m/s, air temperature 0+3 C, small ice pieces with concentration 5-6 points. Security in the area was provided by the nuclear icebreaker "Taimyr" with a specialized team and equipment for oil spill response on board.

On September 11 at 20:00 Moscow time, reloading of 1800 tons of diesel oil was finished. Captains of the icebreakers "Taimyr" and "Vaigach" decided to start moving only after the ice exploration in the daylight hours.

On September 12 at 18:35 Moscow time, the tankers “Nordvik” and “Boris Vilkitsky” escorted by the icebreakers "Taimyr" and "Vaigach" started sailing to the direction of the port Khatanga.
