Nuclear lighter carrier «Sevmorput» unloads on fast ice in Temp Bay

On 18th May, 5:00 a.m., nuclear lighter carrier “Sevmorput” (belongs to Rosatomflot) has successfully finished a passage from Murmansk to Temp Bay located at Kotelny Island of the Novosibirskiy Islands archipelago. The world’s only transport vessel with nuclear power plant was assisted by “Yamal” icebreaker.
- Today, at 8:00 a.m., the vessel’s crew started unloading on fast ice with the help of ship handling appliance, said Head of Fleet Operations Department – Head of Marine Operations Headquarters of FSUE “Atomflot”, Vladimir Arutyunyan. – The passage from Murmansk accomplished under normal operating conditions. The heaviest ice conditions were in Laptev Sea waters, where the convoy passed through high ice pressure. “Sevmorput” delivered 5,806 t of cargo to Kotelny Island: construction materials and food supplies. The cargo owner is LLC “Zapsibgazprom – Gasification”. The agent of the cargo owner – OJSC “Sovfracht”.
After unloading, the nuclear lighter carrier “Sevmorput” will set a course for the register port Murmansk.
“Sevmorput” was built in Kerch, at “Zaliv” shipyard. On 2nd November 1984 the keel was laid down and on 20th February 1986 the vessel was launched. It was put in service on 31st December 1988.
In December 2015 the nuclear lighter carrier, “Sevmorput”, successfully made the trial trips. The vessel has such tasks as providing deliveries of goods to the Northern Territories of Russia, participation in shelf development and developing of Pavlovsk deposit of zinc-lead ore on Novaya Zemlya and supply operations in the Arctic.
