How is the construction of nuclear icebreakers going
Atomflot has shown the deadlines for the delivery of Project 22220 nuclear icebreakers. MASHNEWS editors have prepared an infographic with visualization of this data.

The nuclear icebreaker “Sibir” is planned to be delivered to the customer in December 2021, “Ural” – in September 2022, “Yakutia” – in December 2024, and “Chukotka” – in December 2026.
Such data was provided on October 20 during the II International Conference “Materials and Technologies for the Arctic” by Konstantin Knyazevsky, Deputy General Director for Fleet Construction – Head of Atomflot Representative Office in St. Petersburg.
As of October 10, the technical readiness of “Sibir” was 96.76%. “Ural” as of the indicated date was ready by 78.13%, “Yakutia” – by 24.23%, “Chukotka” – by 2.5%.
In 2021, it became known about the increase in the series to seven icebreakers. It is planned to lay down two more ships in 2022.
Thus, the project 22220 icebreakers will be built one more than the nuclear icebreakers of the previous project 10520, developed in the USSR. Two more nuclear icebreakers LK-60Ya of the “Arktika” type of project 22220 will enter service after 2026.
