About 23 million tons transported along NSR in 9 months of 2020
According to the Northern Sea Route Administration, in January-September of 2020, 22.98 million tons of cargo were transported along the NSR, an increase compared to the same period in 2019 is 1.5%. Transit cargo volume is about 580 thousand tons (+ 67% over the volume of 9 months of last year).
The NSR water area is free of ice, while icebergs on the approaches to Cape Zhelaniya and Boris Vilkitskiy Strait may pose a threat to navigation, as well as grounded hummocks in the East Siberian Sea.
912 permissions were issued for the sailing in the NSR waters (+ 24% over the same period last year), including 143 permissions for vessels under a foreign flag (59% more than during this period in 2019).
