On November 30, convoy of 8 cargo vessels and icebreaker Vaygach entered Vilkitskiy Strait

In the morning, on November 30, the convoy of vessels RZK Constanta, Grigoriy Shelikhov, Turukhan, Selenga, Kumpula, Severnyy Proect, Vladimir Rusanov and Mekhanik Pustoshnyy, led by the nuclear icebreaker Vaygach, has entered the Vilkitskiy Strait. The group of ships is moving at variable speed. According to the vessels’ tracks, from time to time, the icebreaker moves back and helps the ships move forward by turns. On November 28 Vaygach assisted the vessel Mekhanik Pustoshnyy to join the convoy, before that the vessel had been waiting for icebreaker escort in the Laptev Sea. Over the past 5 days, from 6 a.m. on November 25 and until 8 a.m. on November 30, the group of vessels passed about 500 nautical miles in the Laptev Sea.

The diesel icebreaker Novorossyisk led the vessel Radik Bashirov out of the NSR water area. On November 26, Novorossyisk had taken under the escort the vessel Lev Yashin and led it to port of Pevek in the morning on November 29. At the moment, the icebreaker Novorossiysk is assisting 2 ships FESCO Paris and Georgiy Sedov eastward to the Bering Strait. The vessels left Pevek at 00:30 on November 30.

According to the information of Atomflot, the nuclear icebreaker “Vaygach” will continue to operate until all the vessels that in the difficult situation in the eastern part of the NSR will be led out of the NSR waters. In the first decade of December, the nuclear icebreaker 50 let Pobedy will join it. Later, the nuclear icebreaker Arktika will go to the eastern sector of the NSR. The icebreakers Yamal and Taimyr continue to operate in the Yenisey Bay and the Ob Bay. In early December the diesel icebreakers Kapitan Dranitsyn and Admiral Makarov will join them.
