Plans for Tiksi Port Reconstruction

The need to reconstruct Tiksi port in Yakutia (Sakha Republic) was discussed in Russian Government at the meeting devoted to the priorities of the Arctic area development. It is assumed that after reconstruction, it will become a part of the Northern Sea Route.

The Representative of the President in Yakutia reported that Tiksi port is considered to be the base infrastructure management point in the Eastern part of the NSR. It has great importance both for the national economy sector and for the field of national security.

The Russian President set the task to ensure the cargo volume on the Northern Sea Route by 2024 to 80 mln tons.

“In order to carry out this task, it is necessary to know how many ports should be along the NSR, how the safety of vessels, their bunkering, maintenance, communications, rescue are provided. I have not heard the definite answers to all these questions”, stated Presidential Envoy to the Far Eastern Federal District Yurii Trutnev during the meeting.
