The 1st Arctic container ship for transits via NSR

Rosatom plans to start a voyage of the first Arctic container ship along the Northern Sea Route in 2025, the press service of Rosatom reports.

“It is planned to build a pilot series of container ships with a capacity of 6 000 TEU with a high ice class. We are already planning to launch the first ship in 2025,” said Alexander Bryntsev, Director for Shipbuilding and Transit Infrastructure of Rusatom Cargo Company, during the Conference “Sakhalin Oil and Gas”.

Rosatom expects to launch a tender for the design of new Arctic container ships by the end of 2021. “The preliminary cost of the vessels has not been determined, it will depend on the requirements that will be laid down in the design,” the press service of Rosatom quotes the director for economics and investments Yekaterina Lyakhova.

Earlier it was reported that Rosatom and port operator DP World signed a cooperation agreement in July, providing for joint development and design of pilot container ships within the framework of the project “Northern Sea Transit Corridor”. The project provides the creation of a container line and hub ports for the cargo transit along the Northern Sea Route.
