Container ship “Venta Maersk “ successfully finished test voyage via Northern Sea Route
The trip gave to a ship-owner necessary information about the transit and allowed to study the practical feasibility of container shipments via the Northern Sea Route (NSR).
Early September Maersk Line Company sent to the first test voyage via the NSR container ship of ice class Arc 4 and capacity 3600 TEU. The vessel left Vladivostok port on 23 August loaded with frozen fish and went to Busan (South Korea) for the additional loading with electronics. When the container ship passed the NSR, it delivered a part of the cargo to Bremerhaven (Germany) on 22 September and finished its trip in Saint-Petersburg.
Maersk Line – is shipping subdivision of DanishA.P. Moeller-Maersk A/S, the world leader in container shipping and port management. The group owns more than 70 container terminals all over the world. It also has a number of the world largest container ships, altogether its fleet counts around 786 vessels. The route via the NSR from South-East Asia to Europe became attractive for the company because it allowed to reduce the time for the cargo delivery in two times in comparison with the traditional routes via the Suez Canal.
