Nuclear container ship Sevmorput will make 2 voyages transporting fish via NSR in 2019

Modernization of the nuclear container ship Sevmorput will be completed by June 30, 2019. The vessel already has technical ability to transport about 200 refrigerated containers ISO-40, that was reported by representatives of the Directorate of the Northern Sea Route of Rosatom. On August 1, Sevmorput is expected to arrive in the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky for cargo acceptance. The working group proposed to schedule at least two “fish” voyages of the lighter carrier along the Northern Sea Route in this year.

In the near future, Atomflot will present data on the cost of services. The working group is awaiting information from the fishing industry on the delivery volumes in order to plan the voyages.

“We need to form the work plan until March 30. The partners from Atomflot will provide us with pricing suggestions. And before April 15, we should discuss cargo turnover issues with representatives of fishing industry, ”explained the Deputy Head of the Russian Fisheries Agency, Peter Savchuk, at a meeting of the interdepartmental working group on organizing the delivery of fish products from the Far East to the Central regions of Russia along the Northern Sea Route.

The working group includes representatives of the Russian Fisheries Agency and other interested departments, the Directorate of the Northern Sea Route of Rosatom, Rosatomflot, fishing and industry associations.

There were discussed issues related to the planning of the work of Sevmorput nuclear lighter carrier, which is proposed to be used for the delivery of fishery products; loading and unloading of containers with products, as well as the development of port facilities in the North and the Far East to increase the delivery of fish cargo. “The delivery of products by the Northern Sea Route will reduce the delivery time, while the cost of transportation will be lower than by rail or road,” said Peter Savchuk.

Currently, “Seroglazka” terminal in Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky is considered as the main loading point, and the ports of Arkhangelsk and Ust-Luga (St. Petersburg Region) are considered as delivery points. In addition, the project of transporting fish by the NSR received the support of the Marine Board at the Government of the Russian Federation. In 2018, Dobroflot Company delivered products of Pacific salmon from the Far East along the NSR, and the Norebo Holding delivered a large batch of fish.
